A professional actor headshot is often one of the first things a casting director, talent agent, or manager sees. Your photos should look current, authentic, and like you while giving casting professionals a sense of your personality and potential range.
I photograph actor headshots in my Dallas studio with clean lighting, neutral backgrounds, and an emphasis on natural expression. Throughout the session, I’ll guide you with posing and expression so you don’t need to arrive knowing what to do in front of the camera.
What Is a Look in an Actor Headshot Session?
A look is more than simply changing your shirt.
Wardrobe is part of it, but we’ll also work with expression, energy, styling, and crop to create images that serve different purposes.
For example, one look may feel warm, approachable, and commercial, while another may have a more serious or theatrical quality. With longer sessions, we have more time to explore additional expressions, moods, and character types.
The goal isn’t to make you look like a different person in every photograph. Your headshots should still look like you while giving you enough variety for different casting opportunities.
Choosing Your Actor Headshot Session
I offer three studio actor headshot sessions depending on how many looks you need and how much variety you’d like to create.
Spotlight Headshot — 2 Looks
$350 + tax | 30 minutes | Studio
The Spotlight Headshot is a focused session for actors who need clean, current images for casting profiles, auditions, and agency submissions.
We’ll photograph two wardrobe looks while working through different expressions and crops. This is a great option if you don’t need an extensive collection but want several strong, professional images to update your current headshots.

$550 + tax | 75 minutes | Studio
The Casting Range session gives us more time to create variety and show different sides of your personality and casting range.
With three wardrobe looks, we can create distinct commercial and theatrical options while varying expression, energy, and character. Rather than simply changing clothes three times, we’ll make each look purposeful so your final images give you genuinely different options.
I’ll guide you throughout the session so the changes feel natural and authentic rather than overly posed or forced.

- 8 professionally retouched images
- High-resolution and web-ready files

The Range Builder is my most comprehensive actor headshot session and gives us additional time to explore a broader range of wardrobe, expression, energy, and character.
With four distinct looks, we can move from something approachable and commercial to a more serious theatrical look while exploring additional options that fit your personality and the types of roles you’re pursuing.
The extra time also means we don’t have to rush from one outfit to the next. We have time to develop each look and make meaningful changes so you leave with a versatile collection of professional images.

Commercial vs. Theatrical Actor Headshots
Actors often need both commercial and theatrical options, and we can create both during your session.
A commercial headshot typically feels warm, approachable, engaging, and expressive. These images can work well when you’re being considered for commercial, lifestyle, or personality-driven roles.
A theatrical headshot often has a little more depth or intensity. The expression may be more subtle or serious depending on you and the types of roles you’re pursuing.
These aren’t rigid formulas. The most important thing is that your headshots feel authentic and look like the person who will walk into the audition room.
During your session, we’ll work through different expressions and energies to create useful variety without making the images feel forced.
What Should You Wear for Actor Headshots?
After scheduling your session, I’ll send you wardrobe guidance and preparation tips to help you plan what to bring.
In general, clothing should complement you rather than become the focus of the photograph. Solid colors tend to photograph particularly well because they keep attention on your face and expression.
I recommend bringing more options than the number of looks included in your session. Sometimes an outfit that looks great in person isn’t the strongest choice on camera, while something relatively simple can photograph beautifully.
Layers can also be useful because adding or removing a jacket or other piece can quickly change the feeling of an outfit.
For sessions with multiple looks, think about variety. Four slightly different versions of the same outfit won’t give you the same range as intentionally choosing wardrobe options with different moods or character types.
You don’t need to make every wardrobe decision before arriving. I can help you choose between your options at the studio.
You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose
One thing I hear frequently is, “I don’t know what to do in front of the camera.”
You don’t need to.
I’ll direct you throughout the shoot with body position, posture, expression, and subtle adjustments. We’ll also work through a range of expressions rather than relying on the same smile or serious expression for every photograph.
Some of the strongest headshots happen between the obvious expressions. My job is to watch for those moments and help you get there.
What Happens After Your Actor Headshot Session?
After your session, you’ll receive a private online proofing gallery where you can review your images and select your favorites for professional retouching.
Your gallery will remain available for 60 days, giving you time to make your selections and download your gallery proofs.
The number of professionally retouched images included depends on your session:
- Spotlight Headshot: 3 retouched images
- Casting Range: 8 retouched images
- Range Builder: 12 retouched images
- Additional professionally retouched images: $55 each
Your final retouched photographs will be delivered in both high-resolution and web-ready formats. All gallery proof images are also included in web resolution.
Which Actor Headshot Session Is Right for You?
If your existing headshots are simply outdated and you need a clean, focused update, the Spotlight Headshot may be all you need.
If you want more commercial and theatrical variety or need a stronger collection for casting and agency profiles, the Casting Range gives us considerably more room to explore different looks.
If you’re doing a comprehensive update and want the greatest variety in wardrobe, expression, and character, the Range Builder gives us the most time and flexibility.

Booking Your Actor Headshot Session
A 50% retainer is required when scheduling your session. The remaining balance is due on the day of your shoot.
Once your session is booked, you’ll receive wardrobe guidance and preparation tips so you know what to bring and how to prepare.
